Messina Shore Excursion and Cooking Class

Detailed Description

Your Presto Guide and your private driver meet you directly at Messina Port for this Messina Shore Excursion in a luxury vehicle.  From there, you’ll drive together into the heart of Taormina for an excursion into the island of Sicily.

Greet your morning and meet your cooking guru for the day over a delicious, typical Sicilian granita for breakfast.  Get to know your classmates and your talented Taormina top chef before you head out to the local food market to buy fresh ingredients for the typical Sicilian dishes you’ll be creating!

Return to the restaurant where the chef will guide you to cook 3 traditional plates. You get hands on instruction and choose from the day’s specials which dishes to prepare.

Once you prepare your dishes, everyone sits down together and enjoys the 3 course meal. Included is 1 bottle of wine for every 2 people, dessert, coffee, and amaro digestif.
The Chef has really done it up! He’s designed this once in a lifetime experience with all the special touches.  He gives you personalized aprons, diplomas, a photo album of 100 photos of the experience, and 1 minute video of the day’s activities as a souvenir.

The lunch ends at about 1:30 PM, your local Presto Guide comes to meet you at the restaurant and brings you to the Ancient Greek Theater where you can enjoy the gorgeous view of the sea and the volcano, Mt. Etna.

Your guide would share the unique and rich history of the theater and the village of Taormina.  They’ll also share some other stops along the way and if you’re not already too full from lunch, you can enjoy a gelato or pick up some cannoli or other desserts to go, or enjoy some shopping time before your guide says “Arrivederci” at about 4:30 PM.

We visit the Taormina Greek Theater, Taormina Duomo Cathedral, Corso Umberto, enjoy the panoramic view of the sea, and Isola Bella (Beautiful Island).

Taormina is one of Sicily’s most romantic hilltop towns which boasts a stunning view of the Mediterranean Sea. Situated on the warm waters of the Ionian Sea on the East Coast of the island, Taormina is laden with arresting scenery, including unrivaled views of Mt. Etna.

Events abound throughout the year: summer brings the Greek Theatre’s Art Festival, early March welcomes a magnificent Carnavale celebration and September hosts the festive Madonna della Rocca. Our tour guide will point out the geographical significance of Taormina including its rocky cliffs, Saracen Castle and breath-taking Greek Theatre. Other highlights include: Antiquarium, The Church of St. Catherine, the Odeum, Palazzo Corvaja, Roman Baths, Naumachie and the Clocktower.

Pitched on a hill of the Monte Tauro and overlooking 100 miles of Mediterranean Sea, Taormina is one of Sicily’s most spectacular destinations. Greek and Roman architecture and history are plentiful throughout the seaside town. A visit to the world-renown Greek Roman Theatre, the second largest classical theatre in all of Sicily, is an unforgettable experience. Built in Greek times, and later enlarged and almost entirely rebuilt by the Romans in the second century AD, our tour guide will share its powerful history.

We will take the opportunity to walk on Corso Umberto I, a legendary road was once a main thoroughfare linking the cities of Messina and Catania. We will visit the archeological museum, Antiquarium, The Church of St. Catherine, and the smaller Roman theatre the Odeum. We’ll get an upclose look at the Palazzo Corvaja, once the home of Sicilian Parliament. Also included in the tour are the Clocktower in the center of town, the site of the ancient Roman Baths which is now a repository for hundreds of archaeological treasures and the striking Naumachie wall which is 130 metres long.

At the end of the day, we’ll accompany you back to Messina Port and have you back at your cruise ship with plenty of time to spare!
