The Talking Statues of Rome

check availability

The Talking Statues of Rome have been an important practice for Romans for over 500 years, when 'Pasquino', the first of these influential statues of Rome, began to 'talk'. It soon became a tradition for the citizens of Rome to leave anonymous grievances about the city and its politics on five statues throughout the city.
Since Pasquino in 1501, these statues have served as a voice for the voiceless and a form of anonymous political expression. Even the pope himself has never been safe from the inspection of the city's people. Our tour will take you to all of the city's five Talking Statues and fascinate you with their terrific stories. Rome has always opposed arrogance and corruption of the ruling class with the Talking Statues, and a great sense of humor. Writing sometimes a poem, sometimes a joke; and in most cases addressed to the pope, the authors, of course, always remain nameless.
